You can learn AI for free in 2026 by combining a free live class with the free plans of the main AI assistants. Start with the free AI 101 class, practise on tasks from your own work every day, and check every answer before you rely on it. This plan walks a complete beginner through those four steps, in plain words and with no coding.

Start with the free AI 101 class before you spend money on any course. It is free, live on Zoom, and runs every day, so you can attend at a time that suits you.

Why you can learn AI for free now

At the time of writing, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini each offer a free plan that you can use without paying. The free plans have limits, such as how much you can use them in a day, and those limits change over time. Check each company's current plan page before you decide what you need.

A free plan is enough to learn the basics. What you need most is practice, a clear method and a habit of reviewing results, and none of those cost money.

Step 1: Start with a free live class

A live class gives you a guided start, which is hard to get from videos alone. AI 101: Fundamentals of AI is free, runs live on Zoom for 2 hours, and is offered every day. The timings are 5 to 7 pm on weekdays, and 11 am to 1 pm and 9 to 11 pm IST on weekends.

The class covers ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini for real tasks, a reusable prompt framework, and where AI answers need checking. You do not need to write code. Students, professionals, parents and business owners in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and beyond can join from home.

DIT has trained 1,00,000+ learners, and classes are live online, with centres in Mazgaon and Andheri West, Mumbai, and in Dubai.

Step 2: Pick one AI assistant and use it every day

Trying every tool at once makes learning harder. Choose one assistant from ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, and use its free plan for the same kind of work for a few weeks. Once you are comfortable, you can compare it with the others.

  1. Choose one assistant based on the language and tasks you care about most.
  2. Use it for one real task a day, such as a message, a plan or a summary.
  3. Note which answers were useful and which needed correction.

Step 3: Learn to write clear prompts

A prompt is the instruction you give an AI tool. Most beginners get weak answers because the prompt is vague, not because the tool is weak. A good prompt tells the tool who you are, what you want, how you want it delivered and what to fix in the next round.

Try a small change first. Add your role, the audience and the format to your next request, and you will usually see a better answer in one try.

Try this now

Copy this prompt into the assistant you chose, and replace the bracketed parts with your own details:

I work as [your job] in [your city]. Explain three ways AI could save me one hour each week, in simple words. For each one, give me the first step to try today, and one thing I should check before I trust the answer.

Step 4: Check every answer before you use it

AI tools can sound confident and still be wrong. Treat each answer as a first draft. Check names, dates, prices, legal details and any figure against an official source before you share it with a client, a customer or your employer.

This habit matters as much as the prompts. It is also one of the skills covered in the free class, so you leave with a sense of where AI is reliable and where it is not.

Common mistakes to avoid

Most beginners who try to learn AI for free make the same few mistakes. The first is jumping between many tools in one week, which leaves you knowing a little about everything and very little about any one assistant. The second is copying answers without reading them, which is risky when the answer is about money, health, tax or the law.

A third mistake is expecting one perfect prompt to work every time. Good prompts are usually improved over two or three rounds, by asking the tool to shorten, simplify or explain its answer. A fourth is never saving what worked. Keep a simple document of your best prompts, so you can reuse them the next time you need them.

A simple plan for your first month

  1. In week one, attend the free AI 101 class and choose one assistant.
  2. In week two, use that assistant for one real task each day and save the prompts that worked.
  3. In week three, rewrite your best prompts with a role, an audience and a format, and compare the results.
  4. In week four, decide whether you want to go deeper. The ₹99 specialist workshops each focus on one skill, such as Claude, vibe coding, AI filmmaking, AI digital twins or agentic AI.

Frequently asked questions

Can I learn AI for free without knowing how to code?

Yes. The free AI 101 class needs no coding, and the free plans of ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are used by typing in plain language. Coding becomes useful later if you want to build software, but it is not needed to start.

Is the free AI class enough to get started?

It is a strong start. The class gives you a prompt framework, practice on real tasks and a clear idea of where AI needs checking. Regular practice after the class is what turns those ideas into a skill.

Do I get a certificate for the free class?

The free class is not a certificate course. DIT offers an optional certificate for ₹99, which you can ask about when you join.

Keep going with a free class

Learning AI for free works best when you start with a live class and practise every day. Join the free AI 101 class this week, and you will leave with a reusable prompt framework and a plan for your next step. The first class is the easiest place to start, and it costs nothing.
